Torah pointer (Yad) - end of 19th century

Torah pointer (Yad) - Imperial Russia - 1895

41 cm high with support

The Torah pointer or "yad", besides making it easy to follow the text, also ensures that the parchment is not touched during reading. Handling a parchment makes the ritual unclean but can also damage the document. Generally speaking, the “Yad” is considered to embellish the reading of the Torah.

The one we are offering for sale is a rare pointer dated 1895 from Imperial Russia. It has four hallmarks and is made of ivory and silver.

It measures 41 cm and is in good condition for such an old piece.

It comes with its support.
