"Dutch pastoral landscape with grazing farm animals"

Hendrik(us) van de Sande Bakhuyzen is Dutch, born in 1795 and died in 1860. He is the father of a family of painters (Gerardina Jacoba van de Sande Bakhuyzen on the one hand and Julius van de Sande Bakhuyzen on the other hand ).

In 1822 he entered the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is also a board member of the Art Academy in The Hague.

In 1824, he traveled to Belgium.

In 1840, he was one of the founders of the company “Arti et Amicitiae”.

He is considered one of the founders of the Hague School. He excels in painting country landscapes and cattle.

The piece we are selling is a watercolour, pencil and ink painting depicting a presumably Dutch pastoral landscape with grazing farm animals.

The work is in good condition and measures 23 by 18 cm. It is a work that has remained in a Belgian family for several generations and which appears, unless we are mistaken, for the first time on the market.

Similar works are currently on display at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
