The Dogons live mainly in Mali in West Africa. They are known in Africa as expert blacksmiths. They work bronze and thus produce unique pieces using lost wax moulds.
The Dogons are also known for their secret rites, their sculptures, their cosmogony (theory explaining the creation of the universe) and their traditional ointments/medicinal plants.
Given its size, the pot that we are selling was used to put ointments (medicinal or magical).
Similar but larger pots also exist and were used as pots for medicinal (or magic) herbs.
